Travis began working for Loveland Coffee in April of 2016. He enjoys getting out and exploring nature and connecting with people through coffee.
What drew you to Loveland Coffee?
I left the beer industry in March 2016 in hopes of starting my own coffee shop in the Lexington area. I had a conversation with a close family friend about my passion and aspirations for the coffee industry. I came to learn that this friend of mine had been roommates with Beach Loveland in the past and was good friends with him. He encouraged me to seek advice from Beach, who had been extremely successful in his pursuit of starting his own coffee business in Irmo.
I spoke with Beach on the phone a few times and I was amazed at his knowledge of the coffee industry, his insight into owning a small business and his down to earth personality. I wanted to know more about coffee and get to know Beach personally because I was inspired by his love for people and passion for good coffee. He invited me to hang out with him at the kiosk and get a feel for a day in the life of a barista. I was hooked after one day and we really connected. I admired what he was doing in the community, the coffee industry and globally through various charity organizations. I shared that my passions, goals and desires for working in the coffee industry aligned with and were being exceeded by what Beach was already doing at Loveland Coffee. I asked if Beach would consider letting me be part of the work he was doing and he agreed. After a short trial period, he brought me on as a full-time employee.
I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity I have been given to do what I love and love what I do.
What brought you to coffee?
People gather around good coffee. I always enjoyed going to small, local coffee shops because they tend to facilitate an atmosphere of community, good music and deeper conversations. The beverage itself awakens your senses to be fully engaged in whatever is going on in front of you. It helps college students get through their midterms and finals. It helps people start their day with something to enjoy and gives them the focus to accomplish what they need to at work. It is also enjoyed around a campfire at night or at a local coffee shop with close friends and loved ones who gather around coffee to grow in deeper relationships with one another. What brought me to coffee was the desire to cultivate an environment of community with others while enjoying a quality beverage.
What's your favorite thing about Loveland Coffee?
The culture of the Loveland Coffee community. Most coffee places have regulars who come through frequently and tend to order the same thing. While the crew members of these other coffee shops may know the usual drink and maybe even the name of these regular customers, it generally doesn’t go further than that. Here at Loveland Coffee we don’t just have our regulars, they are our friends. We know their families, what they do for a living and often the struggles and difficulties they are facing in real life. In the brief moments we spend together at the kiosk every morning, encouragement and support is passed between our windows. We all enjoy the drinks from Loveland coffee of course, but we also genuinely care for each other.
What is your favorite drink and which drink are you most likely to recommend to someone?
My favorite drink is the Medusa. An off-menu beverage made iced with 4-5 shots of espresso, simple syrup and just a bit of half-and-half. I tend to find out what a customer normally likes to drink when they get coffee and base my recommendation on their personal preferences.
Where would you like to be in 5 years?
I consider myself extremely blessed to have come alongside Beach in some exciting times at Loveland Coffee. There have been so many awesome things that have happened in my time here and I know there are even greater things to come. I hope to be an integral part and asset to Beach and his plans to expand and grow in our caffeine filled adventure. In the next 5 years, I hope to be closer friends with the loyal and genuine customers we have here at Loveland Coffee and grow in my knowledge of and experience in the coffee industry.
What are some of your favorite hobbies?
My favorite hobbies are kayaking, camping, hiking and anything having to do with the outdoors.
Travis works at the kiosk on Monday and Friday from 7:00am - 4:30pm and Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 6:00am - 10:00am. Stop by to meet him and enjoy excellent coffee and conversation.
